What Are the Metal and Plastic Coating Processes? Detailed Spraying Process Explanation
Metal and plastic coating is a mainstream industrial surface treatment process, widely used for hardware, home appliances, plastic parts, mechanical equipment and other workpieces. It mainly includes four major processes: electrostatic powder coating, liquid painting, baking painting and UV coating. Each process adapts to different materials and application scenarios. Standard spraying procedures are essential to ensure uniform, firm and weather-resistant coatings.
Each coating process has unique advantages. Electrostatic powder coating is environmentally friendly with no solvent, featuring uniform thickness, strong adhesion, scratch and corrosion resistance, ideal for metal workpieces. Liquid painting offers rich colors and flexible color matching, suitable for plastic and special-shaped workpieces. High-temperature baking paint has high hardness, excellent aging resistance and color fastness, perfect for outdoor products. UV coating cures rapidly with smooth and transparent surface, widely applied in high-end home appliances and precision plastic finishing.

The standardized spraying process includes five key steps. First is pretreatment, removing oil, oxide and dust through degreasing, pickling, phosphating and polishing to enhance coating adhesion. Second is priming with special primer to prevent metal rust, strengthen plastic surface and fill tiny defects.
The third step is topcoat spraying. The topcoat is evenly sprayed with controlled thickness and air pressure to avoid sagging and pinholes. Fourth is curing: powder and baking paint require high-temperature baking, UV paint adopts ultraviolet instant curing, and liquid paint dries naturally. The final step is quality inspection and repair to ensure a smooth, wear-resistant and qualified coating surface.
Proper process selection and standardized procedures greatly improve the appearance and protective performance of metal and plastic workpieces, extend service life and meet high-standard industrial surface treatment requirements.
